Goals of the Mandan Hockey Club:
I. Hockey exists for the players and should be made fun for all involved, to include players, coaches, parents, and fans.
II. Good sportsmanship and conduct of Everyone in the Mandan Hockey Club is essential. Our reputation is based upon our actions and behavior at all times, both on and off the ice.
III. Our objective is to promote the advancement of a well rounded athlete through the sport of hockey.
IV. Players are encouraged to work on individual skills outside of their organized practice times.
V. The success of the Mandan Hockey Club will be dependent upon the involvement of our players, coaches, and parents.
VI. Good sportsmanship by players, coaches, parents, and fans is essential.
LEVELS
·Red Mites:
- Introductory level of hockey
- Ages 4 - 5
- Players will play 3 on 3 utilizing 1/3 of the ice.
- Teams will consist of approximately 5 to 7 players
- Games will be 30 minute runtime
- Smaller nets and a lighter puck will be used
- Players will experience all positions
· White Mites:
- Intermediate level of mite hockey
- Ages 6 - 8 but could include skaters with previous Red Mite experience
- Players will play 3 on 3 with a goalie utilizing 1/3 of the ice
- Teams will consist of approximately 6 to 7 players
- Games will be 3- 12 minute run time periods with 2 minute breaks between periods
- Smaller nets and a lighter puck will be used
- Players will experience all positions
· Blue Mites:
- Advanced level of mite hockey
- All players who are 8 on or before June 30th
- Teams will consist of approximately 9 - 13 players, playing 5 on 5 with a fully equipped goalie utilizing the full sheet of ice
- Teams will be split evenly (Initial splits are subject to change)
- Players will experience all positions
- Players will begin to travel
- Games will be 3 - 15 minute periods
· Girls 8U: Developmental Hockey
- Girls who are 8 or Under on or before June 30th, but could include skaters with previous Mite experience
- Players will play SAG (Small Area Games) with or without a goalie utilizing 1/3 of the ice
- Teams will consist of approximately 6 to 8 players
- Smaller nets and a lighter puck will be used
- Players will experience all positions
- Travel is not likely, but may happen
· Squirts:
- Age guidelines will follow NDAHA
- Teams will be split by equal abilities
- Teams will consist of approximately 11-13 players utilizing a full sheet of ice with a fully equipped goalie
- Players will begin to play a specific team position
- Games will be 3 - 15 minute periods
- Mid Season Team tier (A/B) may take place - Selections for teams will be conducted by a seperate party
· Girls 10U: Developmental Hockey
- Age guidelines will follow NDAHA (10yrs old on or before June 30th)
- Games will be 3 - 15 minute run time periods; SAG (Small Area Games) will also be utilized
- Teams will consist of approximately 10-15 players utilizing a full sheet of ice with a fully equipped goalie
- Players will still experience all positions, but may begin to play a specific team position, & practice to development specific positions
- Players will begin to travel
· Peewees:
- First level of competitive league play hockey
- Age guidelines will follow NDAHA
- Checking is implemented at this level
- Players will be placed on teams according to ability
- Their will be at least one “A†team with the remaining players being placed on equally balanced “B†teams
- Playing time is earned by Ability, Attitude & Attendance
· Girls 12U: Development-Competitive Hockey
- First level of competitive league play hockey
- Games will follow NHADA Guidlines
- Age guidelines will follow NDAHA (12yrs old on or before June 30th)
- Playing time is earned by Ability, Attitude & Attendance
- Players will travel
· Bantams:
- Highest level of competitive league play within the Mandan Hockey Club
- This level is to prepare players for the High School Hockey Program
- Age guidelines will follow NDAHA
- Players will be placed on teams according to ability
- Their will be at least one “A†team with the remaining players being placed on equally balanced “B†teams
- Playing time is earned by Ability, Attitude & Attendance
· Girls 14U: Development-Competitive Hockey
- Highest level of competitive league play within the Mandan Hockey Club
- This level is to prepare players for the High School Hockey Program
- Games will follow NHADA Guidlines
- Age guidelines will follow NDAHA (14yrs old on or before June 30th)
- Playing time is earned by Ability, Attitude & Attendance
- Players will Travel
Ø Mandan Hockey Club offers the possibility of skaters to skate at Grade Appropriate Levels. Meaning that an underage skater may be allowed skate at an upper level if they are grade appropriate, and neither team will be effected in roster size (too many skaters/too few skaters). Parents must petition the Board in writing by the October board meeting of the grade appropriate year. Any and all Grade Appropriate petitions will be considered by the Board, which will have the final say.
Players
Responsibility and Conduct:
1. All players will abide by the North Dakota Amateur Hockey Association Rules. See Attachment
2. Good sportsmanship will be stressed at all times both on and off the ice.
3. No profanity or derogatory statements will be tolerated at any time.
4. Players will respect game officials and their decisions at all times.
5. Players will treat their coaches with dignity and respect.
6. Players will treat their fellow teammates with respect and offer words of encouragement.
Coaches
Responsibility and Conduct:
1. Teach and model sportsmanship and respect for coaches, officials and teammates
2. Promote the mental, physical and moral development of our youth through positive reinforcement and constructive criticisizm.
3. Coaches are to exhibit appropriate language and behavior, as they are representatives of the Mandan Hockey Club.
4. Inappropriate actions, as defined by USA Hockey, towards players, officials, or other coaches will not be tolerated.
5. Coaches must have USA hockey certification for their designated level of coaching..
6. Coaches are required to follow the rules set forth by the North Dakota Amateur Hockey Association and the Mandan Hockey Club.
7. Coaches are to work cooperatively with Coaches Coordinators to develop on and off ice practice plans.
8. Coaches are responsible for beginning and ending their practices on time.
9. Coaches will conduct beginning of year and end of season evaluations.
10.If conflicts should arise, coaches are to conduct themselves in a professional manner, if necessary their level coordinator should be included to resolve the issue.
11. Coaches must attend monthly meeting.
Coaches Coordinators
Responsibility and Conduct:
1. Coaches Coordinators will develop practice schedules utilizing USA Hockey curriculum. These practice schedules will become the property of the Mandan Hockey Club
2. Coordinators shall be an extension of the board in promoting the growth and development of Mandan Hockey.
3. Coordinators shall be assigned a specific level of responsibility but shall coordinate with levels above and below their specific level.
4. Coordinators shall be responsible for ensuring that all coaches at a given level know what is to be achieved with each drill,what is correct and how to correct it.
6. Coordinator shall be responsible for ensuring that all coaches at a given level are teaching what the coordinator deems necessary for the growth of the players.
7. All Coaches Coordinators will attend the monthly coaches meeting and conduct a brief meeting for their level immediately after.
Team Managers
Responsibility and Conduct:
1. The team manager is the liaison between coaches, parents and the Board of Directors.
2. The team manager is responsible for all equipment/jerseys issued to your team.
3. The team manager coordinates travel and hotel reservations for out-of-town games.
4. The team manager is responsible for calling team members with updates or schedule changes.
5. Assists the level coordinator with developing and maintaining a team roster.
6. Attends monthly team manager meetings.
7. The team manager is responsible for submitting articles for the club's newsletter on a monthly basis.
Board Level Coordinators
Responsibility and Conduct:
1. Act as the liaison between coaches, team managers, parents, players and the Board of Directors.
2. Attend the annual coach, player and parents meeting for your designated level of responsibility.
3. Attend the monthly team
manager meetings.
4. Assist coaches with problem resolution.
Parents
Responsibility and Conduct:
1. Recognize the value and importance of coaches, if problems should arise, contact the designated Board Level Coordinator.
2. Inappropriate conduct as defined by USA Hockey will not be tolerated.
o Inappropriate conduct will result in one warning;
o if conduct continues a one(1) week suspension from the rink will be enforced.
o if problem continues permanent suspension from rink may apply.
3. Parents are to ensure their child (children) is on time for practice and games as requested by their coach.
4. Ensure your child has the appropriate safety equipment.
5. Parents are required to assist the club with concessions, games, tournaments and fundraising.
6. Any concerns or complaints should be addressed to the designated Board Level Coordinator.
7. 24 hour cool down period will be enforced before any contact over issues takes place with coaches, level coordinators, board members, or other parents.
Mandan Hockey Club Zero Tolerance Policy
Mandan Hockey Club follows USA Hockey Zero Tolerance Policy found at www.usahockey.com
What is Zero Tolerance:
Any behavior that degrades the game of hockey, its players, fans, coaches, or referees.
Why Zero Tolerance:
There are numerous incidents of physical or verbal assaults occurring each year from a player, coach, or spectator in amateur hockey that degrades the essence of the game.
Who is included in Zero Tolerance:
There are two areas of concern dealt with by the zero tolerance policy.
1. Players
2. Spectators
Where is the zero tolerance policy used:
Anytime Mandan Hockey Club members are preparing to practice, play games (home and away), and hockey club functions.
Disciplinary Committee
Responsibility and Conduct:
1. The disciplinary committee must be notified as soon as possible of an incident that violates the standards of the Mandan Hockey Club.
2. The committee will meet either in person or by phone within 24 hours of notification of an infraction.
3. The committee will hear and decide upon consequences for infractions of the zero tolerance policy.
